Today, I am deeply grateful for the Dial Hope Board of Directors and for all who give so generously of their time behind the scenes to make Dial Hope a reality.
At the church where I currently serve, each Thursday morning a group of us meet for prayer. We pray for the needs of the congregation, the community and the world around us. Before we begin however, our fearless leader Teri, has us name out loud at least 20 things we are grateful for. This is a powerful exercise that not only gives us a better perspective on life, I believe it opens our spirits up to prayer. When we approach God with gratitude, our hearts are in the right place.
The poet Courtland Sayers once wrote:
5,000 breathless dawns all new; 5,000 flowers fresh in dew.
5,000 sunsets wrapped in gold; 1 million snowflakes served ice cold.
5 quiet friends, 1 baby’s love; 1 white sea with clouds above.
1 June night in a fragrant wood, 1 heart that loved and understood.
I wondered when I waked that day–in God’s name–how could I ever pay.
Let us pray: God of hope, It doesn’t take us long to count twenty blessings. With hearts full of gratitude, may we respond with generosity, compassion, forgiveness and love. Amen.
